Pet Products Party Promotes Safe Snacks & TreatsKeep Pets Healthy & Satisfied with Harmless Nutritional Food Choices
Don't risk a pet's health - or life - by feeding a dog or cat human treats & snacks. Host a pet product party and choose from a variety of safe foods and toys.
Hosting a party for pet products or attending a pet product event is a brilliant way to buy special items and gourmet treats for a favorite pet. By purchasing snacks and treats made especially for dogs and cats, pet owners know the ingredients are safe. Foods and treats aren't the only pet items displayed at a pet product party; everything from pet clothing to bedding to toys, jewelry, and more makes a pet product party fun and entertaining. Owners may be encouraged to bring pets along too, to share in the fun. What is a Pet Product Party?A pet product party is an event hosted by an individual or organization that loves pets. The host works with a consultant and invites friends and neighbors to the home to view pet products of all kinds. Guests are given the chance to examine featured items and may place an order for products desired. As with most any kind of party event, light refreshments are usually served. Pets in attendance get pet treats. Pet product parties provide a safe way to buy treats and snacks that may not be available on store shelves. Experienced pet owners know what's safe for their pets and what isn't. Some human foods and snacks, for example, can be deadly to cats and dogs. Human Food Ingredients Can Poison a PetMost dog and cat owners know chocolate can cause harm – even death – to a beloved pet. Chocolate contains a compound called theobromine that acts as a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. However, new pet owners may not know that grapes, onions, and mushrooms can cause serious problems, too. Onions contain a substance that destroys red blood cells in cats. There is a long list of foods that are toxic to dogs and cats, and many dangerous ingredients are found in table scraps that are often fed to pets. The most recent warning for pet owners is an artificial sweetener called xylitol. Xylitol can be found in many brands of sugarless gum and in many snack foods such as pudding. The ingredient is deadly to certain animals. AOL Living recently featured an article from the website, Pawnation, titled, "Sugar-Free Gum and Snacks Can be Deadly for Pets" by Kirsten Taylor (Sept. 2009). Taylor interviewed Sharon Gwaltney-Brant, vice president of the ASPCA's Animal Poison Control Center, who states: "Cases of xylitol poisoning in dogs have increased in recent years as the sweetener has been added to lots of new foods ..." Taylor adds in the same article, "The chemical is completely safe for humans and most other animals, but in dogs, xylitol causes blood sugar levels to plummet." Taylor also cites a statement from the San Diego Union-Tribune: "A little xylitol goes a long way. Just two sticks of sugarless gum can be fatal for a 20-pound dog, ... and a single sugar-free pudding cup can spell trouble for a 90-pound pooch." All the more reason to stop feeding pets any kind of people food.
